One Song, an Entire Life

“How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a Scotsman…”

The first minute of Hamilton throws an entire life at you with one question.

A bastard, an orphan, an immigrant from the Caribbean—how did he become the driving force of America’s founding?

And it’s all sung in hip-hop.

Why Rap History

Lin-Manuel Miranda read Ron Chernow’s Hamilton biography on vacation—over eight hundred pages. When he finished, he thought: this is rap material.

Because rap has the highest information density of any musical form. The same three minutes that carry a pop song’s few dozen words can hold a novel’s worth of story in a rap verse.

So the founders’ debates became battles, political struggle became cyphers, and King George III sings a Beatles-style breakup song mocking the colonies.

The People History Books Skip

What makes this show truly great isn’t only technique.

It lets Eliza Hamilton sing last. After her husband died, she lived another fifty years—founding New York’s first private orphanage, preserving his papers, raising funds for the Washington Monument.

“Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?” That question is what the whole show hands to its audience.

Taiwan Is Still Waiting

Hamilton has never been staged in Taipei.

Its first international tour went to Auckland, Manila, Abu Dhabi, Singapore—around most of Asia without stopping in Taiwan.

But Taiwanese fans have long known it through Disney+’s official filmed version. Perhaps someday, that ship will dock.
